What Are The CFA Awards Of Excellence In Franchising?

The Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) Awards of Excellence in Franchising program recognizes excellence in franchise operations and celebrates the mutually-rewarding relationship between a franchise system and its franchisees.

The CFA Awards of Excellence in Franchising is the pinnacle of franchise achievement in Canada and is the highest recognition a franchise system can receive from the CFA.

Franchise systems compete each year for the title of winner of the CFA Awards of Excellence in Franchising through an independent process that evaluates the calibre and strength of their franchisee relations. The CFA Awards of Excellence in Franchising is presented annually to franchise systems that have demonstrated a dedication to superior franchisee relations, team work and communication.

The winning franchise systems are decided based on the results of a survey completed by CFA member franchisors and franchisees about their experiences with their franchise system and relationships with the franchisor. The CFA Award of Excellence in Franchising is sponsored by CFA and administered by InfoFeedback, a third-party research firm.

Participating in this program is exclusive to CFA franchise system members who have been franchising for three years or more and have a minimum of six (6) franchisees.

The CFA Awards of Excellence in Franchising program is continually evolving to celebrate excellence in franchising in Canada. It began as one award in 1992 and the program was expanded to include four categories in 2008. These four categories were created to reflect the wide range of franchise opportunities in today's marketplace and to enable franchise systems to be rated against their peers. Entries are separated into Traditional Franchises (i.e. those with brick and mortar locations) and Non-Traditional Franchises (i.e. mobile, home-based, etc.). Within these groups, entrants are groups based on the length of time the franchise system has been operating (3 to 10 years and 11+ years).

From amongst the Gold winners in each category, the franchise system with the highest overall score is awarded the CFA Awards of Excellence in Franchising Grand Prize. The statue awarded to the Grand Prize Winner features two figures stepping in unison, symbolizing the franchisor and franchisee moving forward together.

In 2011, the CFA Awards of Excellence in Franchising program expanded again to include even more opportunities to recognize the tremendous excellence of CFA franchise systems through the Franchisees' Choice designation. Recipients of this designation are program participants that have achieved a score that exceeds the benchmark. All recipients of this designation are ranked equally and appear alphabetically in a widely promoted list of Canada's top franchises based on franchisee satisfaction.
