Heads up, workers in B.C.! The province’s minimum wage is getting another bump next month, and it could mean more money in your pocket.
The B.C. government has announced that the general minimum wage will increase by 2.5% on June 1, 2025, going from $17.40 to $17.85 per hour. This follows changes made in spring 2024 to the Employment Standards Act, which now requires annual wage increases tied to the rate of inflation.
According to the province, this yearly hike happens every June 1, except for agricultural piece rates, which are adjusted on December 31 each year.
Right now, B.C. already boasts the highest minimum wage among the provinces, and this increase will help keep it in that top spot. However, Nunavut still holds the national title with the highest minimum wage in Canada at $19 per hour, followed by the Yukon at $17.95 per hour.
This move is part of B.C.’s effort to help workers keep up with the cost of living.
