CFA – Joint Letter – Rail Strike
August 15, 2024
Advocacy

On August 9, the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) joined over 70 other business associations in sending a joint letter to the Prime Minister, Minister of Labour and Seniors, and Minister of Transport to implore them to intervene and do everything possible to avert a disruption on Canada’s Class 1 railroads.

A rail strike would have disastrous consequences for the Canadian economy, affecting the transport of over $1 billion worth of goods every day it drags on and preventing many CFA members from getting the goods they need for their businesses’ day-to-day operations. We know that the long-term effects of a strike would be felt even after the trains begin moving again; in fact, we are already seeing shipments affected in anticipation of a potential work stoppage on August 22.

That is why the CFA, along with other business associations across Canada, is calling on the federal government to step in and ensure that a disruption to our national railway system does not occur.
