COVID-19 And the Workplace: Case Law Update
Wednedsay, July 7, 2021 | 2 – 3 PM ET
FREE WEBINAR

The COVID-19 pandemic caused many employers to temporarily lay-off employees or significantly reduce compensation packages to stay afloat. In many cases, employees claimed these changes constituted a constructive dismissal and sued for damages.

We are now beginning to see cases from our courts to consider the issue of constructive dismissal in the context of COVID-19. Join us in this webinar to discuss recent cases on the following topics:

  • Constructive Dismissal for COVID-19 Reasons: When will a COVID-19 related change to terms and conditions of employment breach the employment relationship?
  • Infectious Disease Emergency Leave: In Ontario, can an employee deemed to be on Infectious Disease Emergency Leave still claim constructive dismissal at common law?
  • Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and Damages:  Can CERB collected by an employee reduce the potential damages owed by an employer?

Ghost kitchens are one of the hottest trends in foodservice. Ghost kitchens offer the opportunity to expand quickly and reach new customers, very often with lower up-front capital expenditures.

Drawing from success stories in the marketplace, this session will explain the various models of ghost kitchen found in the marketplace today. We will examine what  makes ghost kitchens an effective model for franchisors to scale their concept and reach new customers. We will identify that questions that a franchisor should consider to determine which ghost kitchen model is right for them and will discuss the legal issues and franchisee-relationship considerations that franchisors should be aware of.

In this session, you will:

1.    Understand what a “ghost” or “dark” kitchen is, and what different models can be found in the marketplace today.
2.    Understand how ghost kitchens could help a franchisor scale its concept and reach new customers.
3.    Be given practical tips to help a franchisor determine which model of ghost kitchen might be the right fit.
4.    Understand the legal issues and franchisee-relationship considerations that a franchisor should consider before going into ghost kitchens.

Back by Popular Demand!

Join the Canadian Franchise Association on July 13, 2021 at 4pm EST for the CFA Supplier Referral Networking event! You and fellow CFA members in the Supplier category can virtually meet over a Zoom call to learn what programs/services other supplier members offer in their business, while building relationships and creating referrals for clients in search of other services in the Franchise Support Services/Suppliers category.

Attending helps increase your chances of generating business leads from fellow suppliers who refer their clients to your services.

During this hour-long networking event, attendees will break into small groups of about 5 people, where each person is invited to share a 2 minute overview of the services their company offers, moderated by a room host. We encourage email and LinkedIn exchanges among attendees to help broaden your network.

You won’t want to miss out on this networking opportunity with fellow CFA supplier members! This event is open to all CFA supplier members and is sponsored by BDO Canada.
