On December 4, Divert NS opened their EPR Portal for producers to register for Nova Scotia’s Extended Producer Responsibility Program for Packaging, Paper and Packaging-Like Products (EPR for PPP). The deadline for registration is January 1, 2024.
To date, 70 obligated producers have registered in our Portal. Creating an account and registering takes about 15-20 minutes. Producers should have the following information ready:
- Business number
- Business start date
- Date when your company started supplying designated materials into Nova Scotia
- Legal business name and address
- A company representative and their contact information
As part of the registration process, producers are not required to provide data on the volume of designated material your business supplies into Nova Scotia.

Please note that the Portal will be open through the holidays, but technical support will not be available from December 22 to January 1. Divert NS will take a flexible and supportive approach with those producers who have challenges in registering by the deadline.
Looking ahead to 2024, there will be other milestones that producers will be required to meet, as outlined in the regulation. Divert NS will be sending regular updates to prepare obligated producers for how they can meet the requirements.
