Chef-led menu introduces halal-certified proteins and pre-built flavour combinations including edgy Crispy Shawarma option

Pita Pit introduces a new shawarma lineup across Canada on May 4. The lineup includes Chicken Shawarma, Beef Shawarma and Halloumi Shawarma, available as a pita, salad or bowl. Each item is prepared with a fixed combination of ingredients, including hummus, tahini, garlic or spicy garlic sauce, pickled red onions and pickled turnips.
The launch reflects a shift toward chef-led menu options featuring carefully curated flavour combinations that have been thoroughly tested to maximize customer satisfaction. The introduction of shawarma expands Pita Pit’s menu with a category that is typically associated with independent operators, now delivered at a national scale. At the centre of the innovation is the brand’s crispy shawarma preparation, where the shawarma pita is brushed with Chipotle Crunch sauce and then toasted until golden. The result is a distinctive combination of caramelization, crunch, and bold flavour in every bite.
“Shawarma builds on our core format while introducing a different flavour profile and a more defined approach to how the items are prepared in store,” said Chef Jason Baker, Director of Culinary for Pita Pit. “We are focused on creating something that is consistent across locations and easy for guests to order quickly.”
The chicken and beef shawarma are halal certified. The proteins are specially prepared using traditional marination and cooking methods, then finished on the grill in-store. Unlike the brand’s customizable format for other menu items, the shawarma options are offered as pre-set combinations developed by the culinary team to balance flavour and simplify ordering.
