RBC and Ten Thousand Coffees launch national networking partnership for Canadian youth

Seven post-secondary institutions will connect students with alumni across Canada

TORONTOSept. 5, 2018 /CNW/ – To help young Canadians prepare for the future of work, RBC Future Launch and Ten Thousand Coffees have partnered to increase access to alumni networking and mentoring for students at seven post-secondary institutions across Canada.

“Research shows that 90% of millennials view a lack of opportunities – like career development and training – as the largest barrier facing their generation,” said Mary DePaoli, Chief Marketing Officer, RBC. “At RBC, we want to help set up young people for success and through this partnership, thousands of college and university students will be able to connect with alumni across Canada and build their own networks and mentoring opportunities.”i

Phase one of the partnership, which officially starts September 17, will launch at the following post-secondary institutions:

  • George Brown College – Centre for Business
  • McGill University – Desautels Faculty of Management
  • Saint Mary’s University – All Faculties
  • University of Calgary – Schulich School of Engineering
  • University of Guelph – College of Business and Economics
  • University of Lethbridge – All Faculties
  • University of Victoria – Gustavson School of Business
  • University of Victoria – Faculty of Social Sciences
  • University of Victoria – Faculty of Engineering

“Together with RBC, we’re providing students with the tools they need for the future, because when networking and mentorship is done right, it helps young people be more engaged, productive, innovative and ultimately more successful,” said Dave Wilkin, Founder, Ten Thousand Coffees. “We are thrilled that Ten Thousand Coffees has been selected as the networking platform for RBC Future Launch.”

Ten Thousand Coffees will match students with alumni based on their career goals and provide simple, step-by-step instructions on how to network effectively. In addition, Ten Thousand Coffees provides LinkedIn certificates to help participants in their job search and support them during professional development discussion. Students can also include their participation in the program to their co-curricular record, which when combined with their academic transcript, complements their resume and helps youth articulate their skills to potential employers.

RBC Future Launch is a decade-long commitment to help Canadian youth prepare for the jobs of tomorrow, through skills development, networking and work experience. For more information and networking tips, please visit: https://discover.rbcroyalbank.com/.
