Renée is joined by CertaPro Painters franchisee, Justin Enns, to speak about multi-unit franchise ownership, succession planning, team curation, leadership transitions, and sustainable growth in the franchising world.
Justin Enns’ passion for business is longstanding. He earned a business degree from the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with a desire to delve into the world of financial planning. However, upon realizing how much of a sales role this career was, he switched gears towards an avenue that better suited him. Justin went on to get his MBA, focusing more on operations management and joining a large organization. However, Justin had a desire to “do his own thing” and get involved with business in a way that better interested him.
Justin’s father had bought into the CertaPro Painters franchise system in 2015, and in 2017, Justin joined his father’s team to transform it into a family business. This father-son duo had worked together before, and this franchise afforded them both an opportunity to bolster each others’ success with the added support of the franchise system. While Justin didn’t have extensive knowledge in painting at the time, he had the experience, knowledge, and passion for business to continue leading the operation to success.
In 2023, Justin took over the CertaPro franchise from his father and has since then seen ongoing growth. “I’m proud of our continued growth year over year. No backslides I always say, and we’ve been able to grow in every year of our existence,” Justin shared with Franchise Canada.
Justin now owns three units in Calgary and Central Alberta, and has helped the team grow from three people to ten office staff and eight employee painters. He’s also forged relationships with business partners to ensure they can take on projects of any size. Furthermore, he’s gotten incredibly involved with the CertaPro franchise community, joining the Franchise Advisory Board and the IT Advisory Board.
