National celebration includes limited-edition drinks and merchandise honouring five decades of community and coffee culture
Founded in 1975, Second Cup Café is marking 50 years as one of Canada’s original coffeehouse brands. From a single store on King Street in downtown Toronto to a nationwide presence, Second Cup has helped shape Canadian coffee culture and foster millions of everyday connections. To celebrate this golden anniversary, Second Cup introduces a lineup of birthday cake–inspired beverages and an exclusive collection of commemorative merchandise.
“For 50 years, Second Cup has been part of the rhythm of daily life in Canada,” says Peter Mammas, President and CEO of Foodtastic, the Canadian foodservice company that purchased the brand in 2021. “Second Cup is a place where people meet, share ideas, and enjoy the large and small special moments of everyday life over coffee. With this milestone, we wanted to give guests something fun and nostalgic so they can raise a cup with us and be part of the celebration.”
Guests will be able to raise a cup to 50 years with three new limited-time drinks – Birthday Cake FroCho, a creamy frozen treat blended with white hot chocolate powder, vanilla, strawberry, milk, and ice, topped with whipped cream and colourful sprinkles, Birthday Cake Latte, a warm, comforting blend of espresso, steamed milk, and rich vanilla, and Iced Birthday Cake Latte, a festive iced version of the classic latte, made with bold espresso, cold milk, and rich vanilla.
“Second Cup isn’t just a coffee brand, it’s part of Canada’s cultural fabric,” says Sam Wadera, Vice President Brand at Second Cup Café. “From its beginnings in 1975 to today, it has a proud legacy of quality coffee, pastries and carefully selected food options as well as the warmth of a welcoming coffee shop. As someone who grew up with the brand, I’m honoured to help contribute to its future so it continues to be a brand Canadians can call their own for decades to come.”
Alongside the birthday-inspired drinks, Second Cup has released a line of exclusive anniversary merchandise. The limited-edition collection features mugs with gold accents, stainless steel tumblers, reusable cold cups, and tote bags with refreshed designs that pay homage to Second Cup’s roots.
The 50th anniversary menu and merchandise are available at participating cafés nationwide for a limited time only and while supplies last.
