Mike Goosney, Minister of Labour, announced that a $0.35 increase to the provincial minimum wage, in accordance with Newfoundland and Labrador’s Labour Standards Regulations, will go into effect on April 1, 2026.

That brings the minimum wage in the province to $16.35 an hour, with the minimum overtime wage rate rising to $24.53 an hour.

A news release states the adjustment is based on changes to the national Consumer Price Index and is required under the Labour Standards Regulations. Minimum wage rates are adjusted each year on April 1.

Goosney says affordability is a key pillar of the provincial government’s platform. He says the 35 cent adjustment reflects an ongoing commitment to help workers and businesses manage rising costs.
