MONCTON – This announcement has Maritime pancake lovers excited, even ones that don’t live in Monton. The International House of Pancakes(IHOP) will open a location in the Hub City by the end of 2019, confirmed Craig Hoffman, a spokesperson for the chain.
“[There’s] not many details except that this will be our first IHOP location in Atlantic Canada, which we hope to open by the end of the year, which would be perfect since 2019 marks IHOP’s 50th year in Canada,” he said in a message to Huddle.
“In fact, although we were originally called the International House of Pancakes when the first location opened back in 1958 in Southern California, we actually became international in 1969 when our first non-U.S. location opened in Westminister, B.C. Having a location in Moncton means we’ll be in Canada from coast to coast!” he added.
The well-known restaurant chain serves more than 14 types of pancakes and various breakfast, lunch and dinner items like burgers, sandwiches, steaks and omelettes, among others.
As of 2016, there are 1,695 IHOP locations in the U.S., Canada, Bahrain, the U.A.E., Guam, Guatemala, Kuwait, Mexico, Panama, The Philippines, Puerto Rico, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The first restaurant opened over 60 years ago in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles.
DineEquity, the parent company that owns IHOP, also owns the Applebee’s chain.
