First SPARKS METHOD Exercise Clinic to Open in Saskatchewan

SPARKS METHOD, a medical fitness clinic specializing in safe, supervised exercise and healthy lifestyle coaching for people with chronic health conditions, announced today it will be opening its doors to the public on Sept. 9 in Regina North. Known as LIVE WELL Exercise Clinic in other provinces throughout Canada, SPARKS METHOD Regina North is the area’s first medical fitness clinic catering predominantly to the baby boomer generation and those living with chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity that come with aging and an overly sedentary lifestyle. The fast-growing concept is leading an emerging national trend to use exercise as medicine in order to prevent and treat chronic disease, promote mental health and help Canadians live healthier for longer.

The clinic is owned and operated by local resident Brenda Yungwirth, who has worked in the public human services sector for over 25 years. Yungwirth identified a need in her community for a place where people could exercise in a safe and supervised environment without fear of judgement or injury. SPARKS METHOD is a subsidiary of Canada’s first chain of medical fitness clinics, which operate under the name LIVE WELL in over 20 locations throughout other provinces, including British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.

“As someone with chronic health conditions myself, I understand that while self care is extremely important, it isn’t always easy to do. I want to be able to enjoy life as I age, and I know the time to start taking charge of my health is now,” said Brenda Yungwirth, owner of SPARKS METHOD Regina North. “As we age we start to realize that a sedentary lifestyle has a profound impact on our quality of life. I believe Sparks Method is one way to improve our health and pave the way for a better future.”

SPARKS METHOD differs from a typical big-box gym or boutique fitness facility as it monitors members’ blood pressure, heart rate and other healthy vital signs to ensure they are exercising safely and not putting themselves at risk. The exercise programs are crafted by their own team of certified clinical exercise physiologists, and SPARKS METHOD staff are trained healthcare professionals who will tailor a program specifically for a member’s needs. SPARKS METHOD also stays in touch with its members’ family doctors to keep them apprised of their patients’ progress and alert them to any changes in their health. SPARKS METHOD limits its membership to just 300 members per location, ensuring each individual is receiving a personalized exercise and health coaching plan.

“Where healthcare has struggled to adopt exercise as medicine for the patients who need it the most, SPARKS METHOD and LIVE WELL have created a model that achieves significant health outcomes in members with a range of chronic diseases,” said Sara Hodson, founder and CEO of LIVE WELL. “Using exercise as a form of medicine is a powerful tool to improve health and ease the burden on our healthcare system by lowering medical costs. As I always say, if exercise were a pill, it would be the most widely-prescribed drug in the world.”

SPARKS METHOD Regina North is located at 1804 9th Avenue N in Regina, Saskatchewan, and those interested can schedule appointments now for a free program consult.
