Kumon Ranked No. 1 Low-Cost Franchise for 5th Time

Kumon leads Entrepreneur’s list of franchises for less than $100,000

Kumon is ranked No. 1 on Entrepreneur magazine’s Top 100 Franchises for Less Than $100,000 list for the fifth consecutive year.

“We are proud to again be recognized as the best franchise to buy for less than $100,000,” said Mike Shim, senior vice president of field operations for Kumon North America. “We raised our incentive amounts last year to keep the cost of starting a Kumon Center affordable for our franchise owners. We want new instructors to focus on enrolling and helping their students, not worrying about startup costs.”

Kumon’s startup costs range from $67,428 to $145,640, depending on location, including the franchise fee of $2,000. In the U.S., Kumon provides incentives of up to $37,100 to assist with the expenses associated with establishing a new Kumon Center. These incentives encompass rent reimbursement of up to $1,000 per month, new center marketing, signage, furniture, carpeting, and more. Veterans may qualify for an additional $10,000 incentive.

Entrepreneur’s low-cost ranking is based on startup costs as well as inclusion in the magazine’s prestigious Franchise 500®, which reflects outstanding performance in areas such as costs and fees, size and growth, support, brand strength and financial strength and stability. Kumon has been ranked No. 1 in the education category for 23 consecutive years and in the Top 10 overall for four consecutive years.

Entrepreneur annually ranks three sets of low-cost franchises: those that cost less than $50,000, those that cost less than $100,000 and those that cost less than $150,000. Details on Entrepreneur’s Top Franchises for Less Than $100,000 are available online. The rankings are featured in the spring issue of Entrepreneur’s Startups publication.
